Road Trip! Part Six: The Reunion

 My Aunt Irene's Celebration of Life was hosted in June by Cousin Rod and his wife, Darcy, at their family horse ranch in Colorado.  It's called The Lazy V Colt Training.  Here's a link to their Facebook Page:

It was super-hot that day, but I was so happy to see some of my dad's side of the family for the first time in many years.  I can't wait to go back and spend some time there!












Rod and Rhonda did a nice eulogy, I laughed and cried all the way through it.
























Rod is spreading Irene's ashes in the same pasture where they spread her husband (my Uncle Joe)'s ashes when he passed.  Together again.














Irene was an amazing person and she and Joe are missed very much.  They moved to Newport in the early 90s to help my dad Howdy build and launch The Belle of Newport.  I was very lucky to have them here and I enjoyed a lot of fun times with them during that period.

Marshmallow farm?

On the way home from the Tillamook Forest Center last Sunday, Eric stopped the car so I could snap some shots of what looks like a farm that produces giant marshmallows. We watched the machine that wrapped these giant hay bales in white plastic. Why they do this, I don't know. To keep the hay fresh, perhaps? It is kinda fun to picture these things as giant marshmallows, tho.

Road Trip! Part Seven: The Rocky Mountains

 The next couple of days were spent sightseeing in the Rockies with my favorite cousin, Melanie. One major highlight was a ride on the  Georgetown Loop Railroad .  The weather was perfect, the company was awesome, and the scenery was second to none. Click on one of the pictures to enlarge them into a filmstrip view. What a great ride!  I highly recommend it if you're ever in the Denver area. Next, we went to Rocky Mountain National Park.  Cousin Melanie got a shot of a moose; I was too far away.  Great shot, Mel! This was mid-June.  It was fun to see snow and walk around on it, we don't get much here at the Oregon Coast! I put my mom's ashes in the creek in her hometown. I sure do miss her. Next up:  The Tetons!

Agate Windows

The GraceNotes have been busy lately, singing at assisted living facilities around the county. We have a few more gigs coming up and booking plenty more for summer. Woo hoo! Last Sunday we sang at the Yachats Presbyterian Church, where we found the most interesting windows. Unpolished beach agates are embedded in resin sheets and make up these windows. The texture of the resin makes it look like a watercolor painting. Beautiful! By the way, the GraceNotes have a nice new website . Check it out!
