Marshmallow farm?

On the way home from the Tillamook Forest Center last Sunday, Eric stopped the car so I could snap some shots of what looks like a farm that produces giant marshmallows. We watched the machine that wrapped these giant hay bales in white plastic. Why they do this, I don't know.

To keep the hay fresh, perhaps? It is kinda fun to picture these things as giant marshmallows, tho.

  1. They do it to keep the hay from rotting.

  2. I would think it would have the opposite effect, trapping the moisture in and making it rot like lettuce in a plastic bag.

How long do they store it this way?

  3. waiting for my husband to wake up to ask him more about the hay tarps. he grew up on a ranch :) But you don't see the marshmallow bales as much out here on the dry side of the state as you do on the wet side, and i'm not sure what that means.
