Playing Hooky

Yesterday was such a nice day, I was going a little stir crazy here at the studio... I spend so much time in front of this computer, I just need to get away from it sometimes.


So I grabbed my yellow boat and headed out for a nice kayak trip on Beaver Creek. It was gorgeous out there, a little windy early on but it died down and was just stunningly beautiful. This is the result of a very busy beaver... you can see the teeth marks in this stump that they took down to use in their dam.
It is so peaceful out there, and the views are just breathtaking. I really love this new hobby.
Up river, the wind had disappeared and the water was so still and clear. Another awesome trip. Can't wait to do a LOT more of this.
Last night I went to Yachats to see this guy... I think I have quite a crush on him. He is AWESOME.
Oh, and Happy Valentines Day. I hope yours is enjoyable. I had a fun shoot here at the studio this afternoon that included a very busy labradoodle and her family. Whew. Kids and pets... always a challenge. Makes the beautiful results even more satisfying.

Road Trip! Part Seven: The Rocky Mountains

 The next couple of days were spent sightseeing in the Rockies with my favorite cousin, Melanie. One major highlight was a ride on the  Georgetown Loop Railroad .  The weather was perfect, the company was awesome, and the scenery was second to none. Click on one of the pictures to enlarge them into a filmstrip view. What a great ride!  I highly recommend it if you're ever in the Denver area. Next, we went to Rocky Mountain National Park.  Cousin Melanie got a shot of a moose; I was too far away.  Great shot, Mel! This was mid-June.  It was fun to see snow and walk around on it, we don't get much here at the Oregon Coast! I put my mom's ashes in the creek in her hometown. I sure do miss her. Next up:  The Tetons!

Marshmallow farm?

On the way home from the Tillamook Forest Center last Sunday, Eric stopped the car so I could snap some shots of what looks like a farm that produces giant marshmallows. We watched the machine that wrapped these giant hay bales in white plastic. Why they do this, I don't know. To keep the hay fresh, perhaps? It is kinda fun to picture these things as giant marshmallows, tho.

Agate Windows

The GraceNotes have been busy lately, singing at assisted living facilities around the county. We have a few more gigs coming up and booking plenty more for summer. Woo hoo! Last Sunday we sang at the Yachats Presbyterian Church, where we found the most interesting windows. Unpolished beach agates are embedded in resin sheets and make up these windows. The texture of the resin makes it look like a watercolor painting. Beautiful! By the way, the GraceNotes have a nice new website . Check it out!
