Miss Freckles is making herself more at home all the time. Now she's taken to chewing things up that aren't hers, and has started digging in the garden areas. We're working on that. She got even more new toys and things to chew on today in the hopes that we can teach her 'hers' from 'ours'. We'll continue the formal training in September when classes start up again. Eric and Michael and Gaelen have her down at the beach right now, I got this image from Eric's camera phone. Sounds like they're having a blast down there. Over the weekend, we adopted one of the sweetest, smartest, most wonderful dogs I've ever met. She is 10 months old, has been handled very gently and lovingly by her foster keeper, and has already been thru obedience training. When people ask what kind of dog we got, I always get the same reaction. "Oh." And not in a good way. One person even went so far as to say, "Oh, no..." These dogs have such a poor reputation and its because of the way they've been treated by people. How sad is that? So I tell them she is an American Staffordshire Terrier. Not a pit bull. It really matters not a whit to me, because I love HER, not her "type". I'm already tired of feeling like I need to defend her because of her breeding. Last night I had a fun session with a family gathering at the beach. This is one of my favorites. Tonight Eric is helping me with setting up a tropical beach scene and shooting portraits at a local fundraiser . I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun, even though the weather isn't really cooperating. I did some self-portraits last week, and Eric really likes this one. What do you think?

Notoriously difficult to get good portraits of. You can't reason with them, and more often than not can't even cajole them into doing what you ask. The trick is to catch them in the act of being themselves. Just like Candid Camera. And hope they are in a good mood. Sometimes you can cajole them into being hammy, but their attention span is very limited so you have to work fast before they lose interest... But capturing the magic portrait is not impossible. And even more gratifying when it's a challenge!
